“The Root Word”

Psalm 1:1-6 “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.”

“The Root Word”

It is impossible for us to be rooted in God without being rooted in God’s Word.

To be rooted in God’s word we must hear it, read it, study it, memorize it, and value it.

How much do I value the Bible? How different would my life look right now if I didn't have the Bible?

1 Thessalonians 2:13 (TLB) “This is why we constantly thank God, because when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you welcomed it not as a human message, but as it truly is, the word of God, which also works effectively in you who believe.”

We have incredible access to God’s Word. 87% of Americans have 3 Bibles per home.

When something is so accessible, so common, we can begin to take it for granted, allowing it to lose its value and power.

It’s possible that if we do not CHERISH the Word, if we are not being TRANSFORMED by it, that maybe we have never really allowed it to take ROOT.

In Mark 4 Jesus refers to the Word as a Seed and then gives us reasons why it might not take root.

The temptation for many is to put God’s Word in their heart for a day or two and if we don’t see fruit immediately we dig it up and wonder why it didn’t work.

We need to read the Bible everyday because we forget everyday.
